A woman was arrested for driving under the influence Wednesday morning after police say she crashed while having her child in the car.
Police say the incident happened around 1:10 a.m. near 490 4th Avenue at NJ-21.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the location to investigate reports of a crash with injuries.
Upon arrival, police found the crash scene with one of the vehicles without a driver, but an unattended child was in the car.
After they checked the child's health and safety, the female driver (the child's mother) returned to the scene and appeared intoxicated.
She was taken to a nearby town for a breathalyzer examination then placed under arrest by Newark Police.
The incident remains under investigation.
