Police in West New York are investigating an incident that left a pedestrian in critical condition after a car struck her Tuesday night. According to Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, Bessie Blazevich, of West New York, was struck by the driver of a 1991 Toyota Camry - later identified as John Maurice of Cliffside Park as she crossed Boulevard East at 61st Street sometime after 6:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, Blazevich was found on the road bleeding from her head. She was transported to Palisades Medical Center but as a result of her deteriorating condition she was transferred to the Jersey City Medical Center for surgery.
The incident remains under investigation.
