Wife-preneur You Don't Have To Build Rome By Lunch

New Jersey

By: O.L./Sway Buckley

We were on a client call the other week and giving a warning about keeping a stacked schedule with no buffers or room for 'life' to happen.

My husband mentioned that he's been learning to take time throughout the day to breathe and THINK.

Then he said he realized he had been in a rush to get as much done as possible in the shortest time, but he wasn't clear about where the 'false' urgency came from. He learned that the pressure came from himself and compared his timeline to those he'd seen online.

Q4 MasterclassThen he blurted out, "Who said Rome needs to be built by lunch?"

That stuck with me because although I have come a long way, I still face the temptation of pushing myself beyond healthy limits. And if I were to stop and ask myself WHY, it would always come down to my OWN views.

I got free from that thinking when I shifted my mindset to honoring God in my work. I remember ending the day feeling defeated because I didn't get 20,000 items completed by 5:00.

I got only about five tasks done! In my wallowing, I remembered feeling as if I let God down, too! This is crazy because He wasn't even a part of the convo when I made my list (Problem #1)

Team ThomasThen I realized that His definition of success was NOT the same as mine. That meant I had been pursuing false balances, which means 'superficial' success. That's not to say that what I got done wasn't necessary; it just didn't define my success. It's a thin line.

Success in man's eyes is often the outward, external appearance. But in God's eyes, it's always the response of the heart. So, my success was not about what I'd done but how I related to what I'd done in my heart.

My perspective has been forever challenged and forever changed. Our systems in the Marriedpreneur Operating Systems are founded on this very principle. If you're a marriedprenuer couple and want to learn more, click here
