Westwood Police Pursuit Ends with Crash, Overturned Vehicle in Paterson

Westwood Police came up empty-handed in their arrest results after a lengthy pursuit of a stolen car and at least one other vehicle that began in their city and ended in a Paterson neighborhood during the overnight hours.

According to preliminary reports, officers attempted to pull over a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee near Lafayette Avenue that registration came back stolen just before 1:30 a.m.

Officials say the driver of the vehicle sped away onto the westbound lanes of NJ-4 where it ultimately ended up in the vicinity of East 42nd Street and 11th Avenue at around 1:45 a.m.

According to reports, the Jeep Grand Cherokee somehow lost police, but officer picked up the pursuit of a second car that was believed to have accompanied suspects inside the Jeep.

The driver of that car came to a crashing halt near the old Paterson Catholic High School where it drove across the football field then rolled over with the occupants bailing from the vehicle.

Paterson Police arrived and assisted in the search for the suspects, but after canvassing the area, both agencies were unsuccessful in locating the suspects.

There were no injuries reported.
