West Orange Man Charged with Killing Livingston Woman

Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Livingston Police Chief Craig Handschuch announced today that the Livingston Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a homicide.

Authorities said on Sunday, Livingston Police responded to the home of Lindsay A. Ulyate, 32, on West Cedar Street at approximately 4:30 a.m. where she was found unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:11 am authorities said.

Her death was ruled a homicide following the autopsy. The cause of death was strangulation.

Today, Dwayne Birchler, 33, of West Orange was arrested and charged with one count of manslaughter.

The Honorable Norma J. Grimbergen, Judge of the Superior Court, set bail at $150,000.

Birchler is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.

The investigation is active and ongoing. No other information is available at this time.
