Weapon Produced After Physical Altercation Breaks Out at Newark Charter School

Police set up a crime scene as they investigated an incident at a Newark charter school in the city's Central Ward.

The early morning incident came into our information space from parents and residents in the 40's block of Hayes Street at approximately 8:27 a.m.

According to preliminary on the scene reports, the fight occurred at the New Horizon Community Charter School where security officer assisted in breaking physical altercation among several parties.

As the situation escalated, school officials called Newark Police officers to the scene after a weapon was found during the dispute.

The weapon was allegedly an imitation firearm and never posed any danger to the school according to reports.

A Newark crime scene vehicle was observed in front of the building and notification was made to county officials to assist in the investigation.

There were no 'official' reports of arrests made or serious injuries.

According to Open Public Record reports, this is the second Newark Central Ward school that Newark Police responded to since July where a weapon or imitation firearm was located.

The investigation remains active.
