Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that killed an elderly couple in Wall Township.
According to authorities, firefighters responded to the 3000 block of Atlantic Avenue sometime around 9 p.m. for a report of a fire with two people possibly entrapped.
Upon arrival, firefighters rescued the two only occupants, later identified as Nicholas Maino, 92, and his wife Joan Maino,86.
Christopher Swendeman, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office confirmed Nicholas died Monday, while Joan succumbed to her injuries Tuesday morning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
