Violent Stabbing Under Investigation in Newark's South Ward; Arrest

Police took one person into custody after a verbal altercation turned into a person being stabbed at a location in Newark's South Ward on Monday evening.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to the 100 block of Rose Terrace after they received reports of a physical altercation just before 5 p.m.

Police arrived and requested EMS and other units after they found an unidentified person suffering a stab injury after being attacked at that location.

The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and we could not immediately confirm the extent of their injury.

One person was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, according to police.

Authorities are attempting to determine if the incident is connected to a fight that broke out among several juveniles from an area high school. Police say they were called to the vicinity of Rose and Bergen street to investigate reports of a physical altercation.

When they arrived, they found about a dozen people engaged in confrontation at that location.

Police were able to break up the dispute without further incident.
