The Honorable Mayor Tony Vauss saluted two officers for their heroic actions in rescuing a child left inside a car stolen from a driveway in Irvington Township Wednesday morning.

The incident unfolded when a car was stolen from a local family's driveway in the 100 block of Elmwood Avenue while their seven-year-old son, Jayden King, who has autism, was still inside.

Jayden was safely reunited with his family thanks to the officers' swift response and unwavering dedication.

"The incident could have had a much different ending, but the officer’s bravery and quick thinking ensured the child's safe return," Jayden's mom expressed to Director Tracy Bowers.

Mayor Vauss commended the officers for their exemplary service and for going above and beyond the call of duty. Their selflessness and dedication to protecting the community are truly commendable.

The mayor expressed his gratitude for their swift and decisive actions, which led to a positive outcome in this challenging situation.

The small ceremony occurred at Jayden's home and was part of Mayor Vauss's summer crime initiative plan, which aims to enhance public safety and reduce crime rates in the township.

The initiative has shown promising results, with a noticeable decline in crime throughout the community.

 Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, and within a few hours, two juveniles from Newark were taken into custody. The suspects have been charged with child endangerment and receiving stolen property.

The safe return of Jayden brings immense relief to his family and the entire community. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in safeguarding the well-being of all residents, especially vulnerable individuals like Jayden.
