Firefighters in Irvington made quick work out of a fast-moving fire that ignited inside a basement at a home in the township on Thursday night.
According to fire officials, a heavy fire erupted in the basement of 19 Cornell Street just before 11:45 p.m.
Firefighters arrived and found heavy flames coming from the front of the two and a half story wood framed house where gas fed the intensity of the fire.
Crews were able to make their way into the home where they checked for trapped or injured occupants, which both came back negative, according to officials.
An aggressive stance from firefighters in extinguishing the blaze had the heavy fire knocked down in under an hour, with about eight residents displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
