Vice Task Force Arrests Newark Man For Maintaining, Illegal Alcohol Establishment,

Authorities in Newark are reporting that members of the Vice Task Force have arrested Mr. Rui M. Carvalho, 42, of Newark, for operating an illegal alcohol establishment last night.

Police say acting on complaints about the illegal sale of alcohol and gambling machines, police responded to 148 Rome Street at approximately 8:40 p.m. to investigate.

Upon entering the establishment, officers observed Rui Carvalho behind the bar serving assorted alcoholic beverages to patrons.

Police say officers also recovered three Keno machines and two Fruit machines inside the establishment along with $760.00 from alcohol sales.

Police also recovered 363 assorted beers and 10 bottles of various brands of liquor.

Police arrested Carvalho charged then charged him with Maintaining an Unlicensed Liquor Establishment, Unlawful Possession of Alcohol and Unlawful Possession of a Gambling Device.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
