Veteran Newark Police Officer Dies of Covid-19

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announce with deep regret the passing of Newark Police Detective Brian K. McAdams, Sr., 51, who passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 due to COVID-19 complications, according to his family.

“The City of Newark mourns another heartbreaking and tragic loss of one of our public servants to this horrific virus,” Mayor Baraka said. “We are very grateful to Detective McAdams for his faithful service over the past 19 years. We offer his family our deepest condolences and prayers.”

“Our hearts are broken by the passing of Detective McAdams, the eighth Newark Police Officer to lose his life to COVID-19,” Director Ambrose said. “With a quiet dignity and humility, he personified law enforcement professionalism by being consistently approachable and respectful to everyone he came in contact with. He will be sorely missed.”

Detective McAdams joined the Newark Police Division in February 2002. His assignments included the 4th and 5th Precincts, Community and Clergy Affairs, Property and Evidence and Candidate Investigations. He was married and the father of four children.

The funeral service and wake were held on Thursday, February 4th, at Evangel Church in Scotch Plains.
