Verbal Dispute Ends in Newark Shots Fired Investigation

A verbal altercation that occurred between two people in Newark's West Ward ended in shots fired on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, his officers seek the public's assistance in locating the victim and suspect who are both connected with the shooting incident.

Director Ambrose said at 1:25 p.m., in the 1000 block of 18th Avenue, the suspect exited a 4-door Dodge Charger, and engaged in a verbal confrontation with the victim.

Police say, during the exchange of words, the suspect fired several shots in the direction of the victim before fleeing the area westbound on 18th Avenue.

According to Director Ambrose, the victim did not appear to suffer any injuries when he was observed walking away from the scene eastbound on 18th Avenue.

The Newark Shooting Response Team is attempting to locate the vehicle as well as the suspect and the victim according to Director Ambrose.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
