Vehicles Stripped of Tires, Rims Reported in Elizabeth

A rash of tire and rim thefts that has affected parts of Essex County, now have incidents reported in Union County according to police records.

A female resident of Monroe Avenue in Elizabeth watched in disbelief as she noticed a vehicle that was occupied by several black males pull up to her white 2016 Honda and began to strip the vehicle of it's tires and rims in at around 5 a.m. in late February.

"The men were super fast when they stripped all the tires and rims off my vehicle. It took them as little as 8 minutes total" the woman told RLS Metro Breaking News.

According to reports, the men wore dark colored clothing and were equipped with tools and even cinder blocks to support the car during the theft.

"I began dialing 911 the minute they pulled up because I figured that they were going to do something, but police did not show up for about 30 minutes" the woman said.

Police arrived to the scene but were not able to catch up with the thieves according to reports.

"To replace the tires and rims it costs about $3967.00. The insurance deductible was $1000.00 but it's a lot just for someone to take what's yours" the woman continued.

At around the same timeframe, police located a Toyota stripped of it's tires on Elizabeth Avenue according to reports.

There are no reports of arrests made as Elizabeth Police continue to investigate.
