Vehicle Strikes, Kill Pedestrian in Newark

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are looking into a pedestrian strike that left a man dead on McCarter Highway in Newark last night.

According to preliminary reports, police and EMS were called to the area of Bridge Street and McCarter Highway at around 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an injured man.

Arriving first responders found the severely injured male victim -who is reported to be in his mid-40's- laying on the ground at that location.

The man was rushed to University Hospital where he died a short time later according to a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The incident is under investigation by The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit the spokesperson said.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
