Vehicle Stop Leads to Arrest of Newark, Irvington Men

Authorities announced the arrest of **Ahmad Johnson, 38, of Newark**, for possession of a loaded handgun and **Wali Magwood, 36, of Irvington**, for CDS Possession.

According to police, at approximately 11 p.m., last night, detectives patrolling North 6th Street and 7th Avenue observed an altercation in the street.

Detectives further observed two males enter a vehicle and speed away from the scene.

Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop where investigators said that they smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

Police said upon further investigation; officers found a loaded .380 caliber handgun inside the vehicle.

Authorities arrested and charged the driver, Ahmad Johnson with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.

Police charged the passenger, Wali Magwood with possession of six glassine envelopes of heroin.

The charges lodged against Magwood and Johnson are merely accusations.

Both men are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
