Vehicle Sped Away From Newark Police During Traffic Stop

Newark Police requests the public’s help locating a suspect wanted for eluding when the individual sped off from officers in the below-pictured SUV during a motor vehicle stop on January 23. 

Police say at approximately 8:51 a.m., officers were on patrol in the area of 18th Avenue and Sunset Avenue when they saw a red Dodge Nitro traveling westbound on 18th Avenue with an expired temporary tag.

 When the officers activated their lights and sirens to conduct a motor vehicle stop, the driver initially stopped before speeding off, traveling eastbound on Valley Street toward Irvington.  

According to police, the driver, believed to be a Black male, had dreadlocks and the vehicle was registered to Lateresa Clyburn of Newark.
