An Elizabeth church ransacked over the weekend has police investigating.
According to police, officers responded to Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal, (El Buen Pastor Church) located on the 500 block of Franklin Street, on August 5th after someone entered the building and caused approximately $20,000 in damage.
Police said the assistant pastor arrived at the church to mow the lawn on and noticed the broken basement window.
When the assistant pastor entered the church, he saw the damage police said.
Authorities believe the damage had occurred between a day or so before it was noticed.
Officials at the church think that the vandalism was caused by someone recently dismissed from the congregation, but the allegations have not been confirmed, police added.
The incident remains under investigation.
