Federal food safety officials have issued a nationwide public health alert for several beef and pork products that may pose a risk to consumers.
According to information sent by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is warning the public about raw meat items produced without required federal inspection and, in some cases, bearing a false inspection label.
Officials said the products, sold under the “Blackwing Organic Meats” and “Blackwing Meats” labels, were produced between April 2024 and March 2026 and distributed to wholesale and retail locations across the country.
The alert includes several vacuum-packed items such as organic beef New York strip steaks, ground beef, stew meat, steak strips, as well as pork products including ground pork and boneless center-cut pork chops.
Investigators found that some of the beef products displayed an unauthorized use of the establishment number “EST. 1996” within a USDA inspection mark, raising concerns that the labeling may mislead consumers into believing the items were federally inspected.
According to the USDA, food produced without proper inspection can carry serious risks, including exposure to harmful bacteria, undeclared allergens, or other contaminants that could impact public health.
The issue was identified during an ongoing FSIS investigation, and officials noted that additional products could be added to the alert as more information becomes available.
At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury linked to the consumption of these products.
However, health officials advise anyone experiencing symptoms or concerned about possible exposure to contact a medical provider.
