Urban Mayors Gather in Newark to Discuss Public Safety

Today the all-day Urban Mayors Round Table on Public Safety event hosted by Mayor Ras J. Baraka was held at Rutgers University in Newark.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Paterson Mayor Jose Torres along with dozens of other New Jersey mayors and law enforcement officials came together to discuss issues affecting each community and ways they can incorporate an inter-city cooperation to defy increase in crime.

Event's keynote luncheon speaker, Acting State Attorney General John Hoffman, spoke to the more than 100 attendees.

The afternoon session, featured speeches from police directors and chiefs of Newark, Jersey City and Paterson, joined by representatives of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the New Jersey State Police, and other law enforcement agencies. Among the attendees were: Roselle Mayor Jamel Holley, Hillside Mayor Angela Garretson, Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp, Irvington Mayor Anthony Vauss, Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson, Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty, New Jersey State Police Colonel Rick Fuentes, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Gregory Gaetano, , Drug Enforcement Administration Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge Carl Kotowski, Essex County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes (check spelling), Essex County Acting Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray, Camden Mayor Dana Redd, South Orange Mayor Alex Torpey, Orange Mayor Dwayne Warren, and Vineland Mayor Ruben Bermudez.
