UPDATE: Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on NJ Turnpike in Bergen County

New Jersey State Police are investigating a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred early Saturday morning on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County.

 

According to a preliminary investigation, troopers responded at approximately 2:57 a.m. to the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near milepost 117.8 in Ridgefield Park, where a Ford pickup truck and a Honda sedan collided head-on.

 

State Police said the Ford pickup, driven by Bruce Canfield, 44, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it struck the Honda, operated by Guillermo Mollins, 39, of Poughkeepsie, New York. 

The impact caused the Ford to crash into a concrete barrier.

 

Canfield sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Mollins was transported with serious injuries.
 

The cause of the wrong-way travel remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.
