UPDATE: Woman Killed in Route 23 Crash in Wayne.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Wayne Police Chief Jack McNiff announce that at approximately 9:40 a.m. today, officers responded to the area of Route 23 North adjacent to the Wayne Inn in the Township of Wayne in response to a motor vehicle collision involving a disabled dump truck.

The dump truck, a 2000 Ford F650 was being operated by Alexander Mendez, 39, from Cliffside Park, when it became disabled on Route 23 North in that area.

Shortly thereafter, the dump truck was struck from behind by a by a 2018 Chevrolet Trax, being operated by Ashley Miller, 29, of Wayne.

Police say Ms. Miller was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Mendez did not suffer any injuries, and remained at the scene of the collision.

No charges have been filed at this time, however this investigation remains active and ongoing.
