UPDATE: Woman Killed in Plainfield Double Shooting

A shooting that left a woman dead and a man seriously injured in Plainfield earlier this week is under active investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Plainfield Police Director Lisa Burgess jointly announced Friday. 

 

The deceased victim has been identified as Ms. Johanna Cordova-Salazar, 29, of Plainfield. 

 

Police say shortly before 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of shots being fired traveled to the area of Lee Place and South Second Street and found Cordova-Salazar and another shooting victim at that location, according to the preliminary investigation.

Police say Cordova-Salazar was subsequently pronounced dead, while the surviving victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for emergency treatment. 

 

At this time, neither shooting victim is believed to have been the intended target of the gunfire. 

 

This investigation is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Plainfield Police Division, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
