UPDATE: Woman Killed, Man Seriously Injured in Newark South Ward Pedestrian Crash

Authorities in Newark are investigating a deadly pedestrian strike that claimed the life of a woman and left a man seriously injured Wednesday night in the city’s South Ward.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at approximately 8:25 p.m. in the area of Chancellor Avenue and Fabyan Place. 

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of pedestrians struck by a vehicle.

 

When police and medical crews arrived, they found a Hispanic woman, believed to be in her early 40s, suffering from severe injuries. 

An unidentified African-American man was also located at the scene with serious injuries.

 

The woman was pronounced dead a short time later. The male victim was transported for treatment. 

His current condition has not been publicly released.

The investigation is being led by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims as the incident remains under active and ongoing investigation.
