Update: Woman Killed in East Brunswick House Fire Identified

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief James Conroy of the East Brunswick Police Department said a 60-year-old woman was killed this morning in a fire at her home.

Tracy Baran of 16 Nelson Circle in East Brunswick was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, which was reported to authorities at 4:39 a.m.

An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim died from smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The cause of the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the details remain under investigation.

The investigation is being conducted by Detective Michael Smith of the East Brunswick Police Department and Detective Nicholas Chiorello of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Firefighters were dispatched to the single-family home to battle the blaze, which caused extensive damage.

No firefighters or police officers were injured.

Among those called to the scene were the East Brunswick Fire Department, the East Brunswick Fire Prevention Bureau, the East Brunswick Police Department, the Middlesex County Office of the Fire Marshal, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation is active and is continuing.
