UPDATE: Woman Dies While Operating Vehicle in Newark; Child Rescued from Vehicle

In an update to some information that we brought to you early this afternoon regarding a woman found unconscious in a vehicle with a child inside, family members has informed our staff that the woman has died.

Family members identified the woman as 48-year-old Valentina Butts of Newark and said the child that was inside the vehicle was her grandchild.

Shortly after 2 p.m.,to Newark's emergency responders were dispatched to Elizabeth Avenue near the White Castles restaurant's on reports of a minor car crash with an unconscious woman and a child inside family members explained to RLS Metro.

Family members said Butts was driving across Elizabeth Avenue when she became unconscious from an unspecified medical condition which ultimately caused her vehicle to sideswipe a vehicle that was driven by a woman that was acquainted with her family members said. The woman immediately called 911.

Newark Emergency Service Unit arrive at the scene within minutes where they forced entry into the car and removed both Butts and the child according to reports.

EMS rushed Butts to University Hospital where life-saving techniques were used to revive Butts but were not successful according to family members.

A 19-year employee of the Newark Public Schools, where she worked as a crossing guard at the Cleveland Avenue School, family members said Butts loved working with the kids.

Family members believe that pass family situations caused Butts some stress within the last couple of weeks.

This is a statement released by the family to RLS Metro Breaking News: "Thank you so much for your report. Valentina was going through a lot.

In the rear seat of the vehicle was her grandchild that Valentina loved and cared for dearly. The child lost her other grandmother just two days ago and was going to live with Valentina, but unfortunately, this situation occurred. Our family is very sad and wants to thank everyone that gave kind words of support to Valentina on the Metro Breaking News Facebook page".

Valentina just celebrated a birthday yesterday, Friday according to family members.
