UPDATE: Woman Arrested for Stabbing Teen Girl in Newark

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Jessica Souffrant, 33, of Newark, in connection with a stabbing that occurred Monday, May 27th.

Police say at approximately 11:50 p.m., police responded to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center on a call of a stabbing victim.

According to police, responding officers located a 17-year-old female at the hospital who had been stabbed following a quarrel with a woman in the 100-block of Ludlow Street.

Officers located Souffrant at the scene of the altercation where she was arrested without incident. Souffrant is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Police say Souffrant also faces charges of contempt on an open warrant.

These charges are merely accusations.

This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
