UPDATE: Vehicular Homicide Charges for Driver of Vehicle that Killed Orange Man in Newark

A man killed after being struck by a car last night in Newark had police arrest the driver of the vehicle authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Task Force confirmed that they are further investigating the incident.

According to authorities, the incident happened shortly after 9:30 pm on West Market Street (near the Family Dollar) sending emergency responders to the scene where they found the victim, Mr. Steven Dawkins, 39, unconscious and unresponsive suffering a severe injury.

Medics pronounced Dawkins dead at University Hospital a short time later.

Police arrested the driver and identified him as Mr. Garrett Carter, 50, of Newark.

All charges are merely accusation. Mr. Carter is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
