UPDATE: Vehicle That Struck 3-Year-Old Child Sought by Newark Police

Police in Newark seeks the public’s help locating a black Mercedes Benz convertible that fled the scene of a crash after striking a three-year-old child on Sunday, September 3rd.

Police said the boy was hit near the intersection of Ridgewood and Avon avenues at approximately 5:22 p.m. when the three-year-old child followed a relative who had crossed Ridgewood Avenue.

After striking the child, the Mercedes Benz continued without stopping and was last seen traveling south on Ridgewood Avenue towards Avon Avenue police said.

The driver of the Mercedes is described as a light-skinned black male with a bald head who witnesses observed wearing sunglasses.

Medical staff treated then released the child shortly after being transported to University Hospital.

Police said the Mercedes Benz appears to be an older model, 1997 to early 2000 CLK with chrome rims.

Police believe that the car frequents Chancellor Avenue near the Newark Irvington Border.
