UPDATE: Two Shot, One Dead on Sunday in West New York

There is an active homicide investigation underway in West New York as authorities search for the suspect that shot two people leaving one of them dead on Sunday

According to authorities, shortly after 12:00 a.m., the West New York Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of 61st Street and Park Avenue in West New York.

Upon arrival at that location, responding West New York Police Officers found an unresponsive male with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body.

Authorities say the victim, later identified as Steven Flores, 19, of Union City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:00 a.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the Cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the neck and the Manner of death to be a homicide.

A second victim who suffered non-life threatening injuries was also found at the scene. Emergency Medical Services transported him to the hospital where he remains in stable condition officials say.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the West New York Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
