UPDATE: Two Critically Injured After Vehicle Slams Into Barrier on Route 22 in North Plainfield

A serious overnight crash in North Plainfield has left two people critically injured, according to information released by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald, Acting Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay, and North Plainfield Police Chief Alan McKay announced that authorities are investigating the crash, which occurred shortly after 3:15 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Route 22 West and Somerset Street.

 

Officials said North Plainfield police officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a vehicle that struck a concrete barrier while traveling south on Somerset Street toward Route 22 West.
 

When emergency responders arrived, they found the driver, an adult woman from Franklin Township, and her passenger, an adult man from North Plainfield, suffering severe injuries. 

Both victims were transported to nearby trauma centers, where they remain listed in critical condition.

Members of the Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team joined the North Plainfield Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau at the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

 

Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing pending the findings of the reconstruction team.
