UPDATE: Trooper Injured in Warren Crash Identified

Warren Township, N.J. - The New Jersey State Police is continuing the investigation of a crash that seriously injured an on-duty trooper.

Authorities said on Monday, April 3, at 3:23 p.m., Trooper Jeffrey Almeida, 26, was driving a marked Ford Crown Victoria troop car eastbound on Interstate 78 in Warren Township, Somerset County, in the area of milepost 40.8 when a collision occurred with an Acura sedan, which was driven by Marquis Godfrey, 29, of Newark, N.J. As a result of the collision, the troop car ran off of the left side of the roadway, entered the grass center median and struck several trees.

Trooper Almeida was entrapped and had to be extricated from the troop car.

He was airlifted to University Medical Center in Newark, N.J. where he is being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening leg injuries.

Marquis Godfrey did not report any injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
