UPDATE: Swift Arrest Made in Homicide of Man Found in Newark Avon Avenue House

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the murder of Javon Johnson, 29, of Newark.

Authorities said on yesterday, Newark Police were summons to a home in the 400 block of Avon Avenue by family members.

When offciers arrived, they discovered the body of Johnson who medics pronounced dead at the scene.

Police took Mr. Erv-Wakine Pryor, 39, of Newark into custody and charged him with the murder of Johnson.

Police said Mr. Johnson and Mr. Pryor are related.

In addition to murder, authorities charged Mr. Pryor with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

These are accusations. Mr. Prior is presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
