UPDATE: Suspects Sought in Armed Carjacking That Led to Police Involved Shooting in Newark

Newark Police seeks the public’s help in identifying several suspects who are wanted in connection with an attempted carjacking and police involved shooting that occurred on Thursday.

According to a statement released by police, at approximately 10:01 p.m., an off-duty police detective was involved in a shooting when he stopped an attempted carjacking near Clay and Broad streets.

Police say the suspects managed to escape capture.

Detectives with the Newark Police Major Crimes Section developed information identifying three individuals as suspects after they were observed fleeing the scene of the incident police said.

While police are actively searching for these suspects, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly identifying and removing them from our streets.
