UPDATE: Suspect Sought for Attempted Carjacking of Armored Car in Newark

Police in Newark request the public’s help in identifying a male suspect wanted in connection with an attempted carjacking of an armored car today.

Police said at approximately 1:30 p.m., Police responded to Wells Fargo, located at 990 South Orange Avenue, on a call of an attempted carjacking after a male entered a Garda armored car that was occupied by a security guard. 

According to police, the vehicle struck two parked cars before the suspect fled on foot, heading southbound on Stuyvesant Avenue towards Rockland Terrace. No cash was stolen.

The victim, an armored car guard, suffered a minor injury to his right hand and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Detectives investigating this incident seek the public’s help in quickly identifying this suspect as part of their investigation. 

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'7"-5'10" tall with a medium build. He was wearing all black clothing, with a blue baseball cap (possibly a Giants cap) and a surgical mask.
