UPDATE: Suspect in Hackensack University Medical Center Assault Found Dead of Apparent Suicide

Hackensack

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella has announced that the traveling nurse who allegedly attacked a co-worker at Hackensack University Medical Center has been found dead of an apparent suicide.

Prosecutor Musella said that Nicholas Pagano, the suspect in the hospital assault, was found in his car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

According to Prosecutor Musella, police received a 9-1-1 call on Monday, at approximately 5:15 a.m on February 7, reporting an assault at the hospital.

When officers arrived, they found that a 54-year-old hospital employee had been attacked and burned by an individual in the break room, police said.

According to Prosecutor Musella, the attacker then fled the hospital.

The victim suffered third-degree burns over her upper body, face and hands, as well as a laceration to her head that required stitches.

Police said she was treated in the emergency room at Hackensack University Medical Center and subsequently transported to another medical facility for additional treatment.
