Police responded to a reported weapons incident at a school in Newark Tuesday afternoon, where a student was found in possession of what was later determined to be a BB gun, according to information released by Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

Authorities were called to Brick Gateway Academy on Clinton Avenue at approximately 3:36 p.m. after a teacher observed a 13-year-old student drop what appeared to be a handgun during recess.
The teacher quickly secured the item and notified school officials, who then contacted police.
Responding officers investigated and determined that the weapon was a BB gun. 
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The juvenile was taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
