UPDATE: South River Man Accused of Beating, Robbing Elderly Man at Cheesequake Service Area, Arrested

The New Jersey State Police have arrested Luke Benneman, 46, of South River, N.J., for the assault and robbery of an elderly man in the restroom of the Cheesequake Service Area on the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville.

Officials say last week, police asked social media followers to “like” and “share” a post, which showed surveillance video of the suspect as he entered the service area. Thanks to everyones tips, detectives from Troop “D” Criminal Investigations Office were able to identify Benneman as a suspect.

Officials say on November 12th, detectives located Benneman and arrested him without incident.

Luke Benneman was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and theft by unlawful taking. He was lodged at the Middlesex County Correctional Facility pending a bail detention hearing.

The New Jersey State Police would like to thank the public for the numerous calls and tips that led to the apprehension of the suspect.
