UPDATE: Son Shoots Father Dead in Jersey City

A Jersey City man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his father during a Saturday night incident that shocked the local community.

According to a statement released by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, officers from the Jersey City Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 8:15 p.m. on May 10, 2025, at 117-121 Wade Street. 

Upon arrival, police discovered 52-year-old Gerard Brooker Sr. inside an apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Following an initial investigation, authorities identified the victim’s son, 25-year-old Gerard Brooker Jr., as a person of interest. 

He was located and arrested by the New York City Police Department in Manhattan around 2:40 a.m. the next morning, Sunday, May 11.

Brooker Jr. now faces several charges, including murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the swift collaboration between the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Jersey City Police Department, and the NYPD for the prompt arrest.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
