UPDATE: Shooting in Newark’s Central Ward Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a violent shooting incident that occurred on Avon Avenue in Newark around 5:00 PM yesterday, leaving one man dead and two others injured.AdThe incident has escalated concerns about violence in the neighborhood.

According to county officials,  three males were shot during the incident. Two of the victims were urgently transported to University Hospital following the attack.  

The third victim, who also suffered injuries, refused medical treatment at the scene.

The situation took a tragic turn this morning when one of the hospitalized men was pronounced dead at 8:41 AM. 

Officials have not yet released the name of the deceased, stating that they are waiting to formally notify his family.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force has taken charge of the investigation.AdAs it is still in the preliminary stages, details remain scarce, and no suspects have been named. The community is urged to come forward with any information that might help in solving this case.

This shooting adds to a series of violent incidents that have troubled Newark in the month of April, prompting calls for increased police presence and community-led initiatives to curb the violence.  

Residents are increasingly alarmed at the escalation and are cooperating with law enforcement to improve safety in their community.
