UPDATE: Second Arrest Made in Execution-Style Killing of Danny Diaz-Delgado in Hamilton Twp.

Hamilton Township (Atlantic)

A second individual has been arrested in connection to last month’s murder of 20-year-old Danny Diaz-Delgado in Hamilton Township, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.

Officials said Akmal Alvaranga, 29, was arrested on Friday after a search warrant was executed at his South Cook Avenue home in Trenton by members of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, the Mercer County SWAT Team and the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force. Authorities charged him with murder, felony murder, robbery, kidnapping and weapons offenses.

According to authorities, on Mar. 24th at approximately 2 p.m., Hamilton police officers were dispatched to the corner of Sixth Avenue and Assunpink Boulevard on the report of an unconscious and unresponsive male near the canal.

Responding officers located the victim, later identified as 20-year-old Diaz-Delgado, face down and unresponsive with his hands tied behind his back and tape around his face. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, head and leg, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Hamilton Police Division. The prosecutor's office has filed a motion to have Alvaranga detained, Prosecutor Onofri said.

Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
