Investigators in Essex County say a gunman shot and killed another man in a residential section of Newark's upper West Ward Monday evening.
Authorities said the incident's events unfolded starting about 11:10 p.m. near 118 Brookdale Avenue.
According to a preliminary investigation, residents in the neighborhood dialed 911 after hearing screams and multiple sounds of gunfire on the block.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, Mr. Jeread Hollaway, 34, of Newark, suffering bullet wounds after an armed suspect pointed the weapon then fired at him at that location.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was called to the scene after medical professionals pronounced Holloway dead a short time later.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
