The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is actively investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man near a funeral home in Newark’s South Ward.

According to a preliminary investigation, Newark Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots near Cotton’s Funeral Home near the intersection of Bergen Street and Harding Terrace on May 10.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr. Keion Alston suffering from gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel were called in, but despite efforts, Alston was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

Witnesses at the scene reported hearing an argument between Alston and an unidentified individual shortly before the shooting occurred.
