UPDATE: Sarku Japan Restaurant in Newark Targeted in Armed Robbery

Newark police are actively seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery at the Sarku Japan restaurant.

Nino Officials said the incident occurred on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the restaurant located at 210 Springfield Avenue within the ShopRite Shopping Facility.

According to the police report, the robbery took place at approximately 1:29 pm when the suspect entered the restaurant and threatened a worker with a handgun.

Sarku Japan Newark Police said the assailant demanded cash from the register and managed to flee with approximately $700.00.

Witnesses observed the suspect escaping on foot, heading towards Court Street through the Betty Shabazz Housing Complex.

Investigators have provided a detailed description of the suspect. He is described as an African-American male in his early twenties, with a height ranging from 5'11" to 6'0" and weighing about 150 pounds.

His complexion is dark, and he was last seen wearing a red and black winter coat, a dark-colored hat, a black ski mask, black pants, and shoes.

Director Fragé of the Newark Police Department has made an urgent appeal to anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity to come forward.

The public can provide tips anonymously through the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

The department emphasizes that all tips remain confidential and could potentially lead to a reward for those who help in solving this crime.
