UPDATE: Rahway Man Fired Shot During Police Standoff

According to a statement released by authorities, Rahway Police Officers received a 9-1-1 call from a resident at 255 E. Grand Avenue stating that her husband was armed with a gun.

Officers responded to the apartment building at approximately 6:45 p.m. on February and were informed that Me. Felix Vasquez, 58, was intoxicated and threatened to harm himself.

Police say Vasquez’s wife told officers that her disabled mother in law was still inside the apartment.

Residents of the apartment building were evacuated as a precaution according to police.

Members of the Union County Emergency Response Team made entry into the apartment at approximately 9:45 p.m. and took Mr. Vasquez into custody without incident.

Nobody was injured during the stand-off, although Vasquez did discharge one round prior to officers making entry.

Vasquez was transported to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

This is an on-going investigation according to police.
