UPDATE: Police Pursuit, Crash Kills Man Occupying Carjacked Vehicle in Newark

Newark

Newark --- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray identified the person fatally injured in Newark during a police pursuit yesterday as **18-year-old Quadir K. Jackson of Newark**.

According to Acting Prosecutor Murray, Jackson sustained fatal injuries in the crash and medics pronounced him dead at University Hospital shortly after 7:15 pm.

Prosecutor Murray said Jackson occupied a vehicle carjacked in the city that Newark police pursued.

Police also charged two other young men in connection with the incident Prosecutor Murray said.

Authorities said Mutah Brown, 20, of Newark, was charged with 2nd degree receiving stolen property and eluding.

Police charged Kevin Anderson, 21, with 2nd degree receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

Police said full circumstances surrounding the incident remains under investigation, but the preliminary findings indicate that the young men allegedly carjacked the driver of a Mercedes-Benz shortly before the crash.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled when they realized that the police were in pursuit ending in the crash on Holland Street.

The charges lodged against **Mr. Anderson and Mr. Brown** are mere allegations. Both of the men are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
