UPDATE: Police Identify Suspect Accused of Armed Carjacking of Postal Worker

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Mr. Wallace L. Johnson, 30, of Newark, in connection with a carjacking that occurred yesterday.

Police said in a statement, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a postal employee sitting in her parked vehicle at Mountainview Place near Sanford Avenue was carjacked at knifepoint by a male who ordered her out of her car, a black 2012 Dodge Durango.

6th Precinct officers observed a vehicle fitting the description of the victim’s vehicle involved in a motor vehicle collision after they followed near the intersection of Mountainview Place and Chelsea Avenue.

As officers approached, the driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

Officials said officers observed the suspect hiding in a rear yard on Cedar Avenue, where he was arrested without further incident.

Johnson is charged with carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an illegal purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
