Update: Police Chase Ends in Rahway After Suspect Crashes into Cars

A 33-year-old Carteret man accused of driving drunk with a flat tire down Route 1 Sunday morning led cops on a chase before crashing into a several cars stopped at a red light.

Damar K. Jordan was traveling on St. George Avenue in a black Ford Taurus when an officer with the Woodbridge Police Department observed he had a flat tire.

After the officer observed pieces from the blown-out tire flying into the air the officer activated his lights and siren in an effort to pull over the vehicle.

Jordan however continued onto Route 1 North initiating a chase.

The chase came to an end near the area of Route 1 and East Milton Street in Rahway, after Jordan crashed into a line of cars stopped at a red light.

Officers removed Jordan from the smoking vehicle and arrested him.

Jordan who suffered non life threatening injuries according to police was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Several occupants of the other vehicles involved were treated at the scene by EMS.

Jordan was charged with eluding, five counts of assault by auto, DWI, driving while suspended, reckless driving, failure to observe a traffic signal, failure to maintain a lane, failure to signal, improper passing, speeding and having an unsafe vehicle.

He was held on $50,000 bail, no 10 percent option.
