UPDATE: Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Stabbed His Wife to Death in Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that Mr. Steven Damon, 47, of Newark has been arrested for the fatal stabbing of his wife Tanya Morris, 46, also of Newark.

Authorities said Morris was fatally stabbed on Aug. 4 at her home in Newark at approximately 8:39 am.

The couple are married and has two children.

Police said afer the attack, Damon fled and has been at large until today.

Police arrested Damon without incident this morning in Brooklyn at the home of a female he recently befriended.

Police transported him to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit where he was processed.

Police charged Damon with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Acting Prosecutor Laurino thanked the New York City Police Department, the FBI Newark Division under Special Agent in Charge Timothy Gallagher and FBI New York Violent Crime Task Force under Assistant Director in Charge William Sweeney.

These are accusations lodged against Damon. He is considered until proven guilty in a court of law.
