UPDATE: Police Arrest Man Wanted for Brutal Mugging of 87-Year-Old Woman in Jersey City; Second Suspect Sought

Officials today announced the arrest

of a 19-year-old man accused of attacking an 87-year-old woman as she walked home from church Saturday.

According to authorities, Safwan Pridgen, 19, was arrested and charged with robbery and conspiracy.

Police say Ana Lagundi, of Jersey City, on was walking home sometime around 6:30 p.m. from evening Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, when she was viciously attacked by two men on Gates Avenue near McGovern Park.

Lagundi claims the assailants pushed her, punched her in the face multiple times and ultimately knocked her to the ground, where they snatched her purse.

The victim suffered a black and swollen eye, swollen lip and was left with bruises on her hand.

According to officials, a warrant has also been issued for the arrest of the second suspect.
